"The power of the written or typed word can be more powerful than you thought! The style and appearance of printed matter has an effect on how we view items, websites, businesses, book titles, and the list goes on and on. <snip> This week, focus on the printed word and see what the words are saying to you!"
As I was driving on the highway this past week, enjoying the day and thinking about our prompt, I saw a perfect example of how typography affects us...a single letter that is recognized around the world for a particular thing, no matter what language is used.
Let me start with a little hint....M.
Need more? How about this....M
More still?.....Now I think you'll get it.....

I see that and I think of McNuggets....hahahaha
ReplyDeleteOne of the most recognizable letters in our culture!
ReplyDeleteEven my granddaughter who just learned how to read knew what that M meant, long ago.. Cute post.
ReplyDeleteThat one has definitely affected our culture, it's everywhere and there's never a shortage of people there!
ReplyDeleteI think of the one in Barcelona that said McAuto under the sign... I guess that meant it had a drive through!
ReplyDeleteI love this. You are so right, one letter says it all.
ReplyDeleteA classic icon - on occasions I have found it a very reassuring sight when I've been abroad and a little out of my depth with the language. A good idea for this weeks prompt!
ReplyDeleteI thought about taking a picture of the McDonald's "M" but did not have my camera with me when I saw one, It is so iconic and is so well known around the world.
ReplyDeleteTruly, it is ubiquitous - for good or ill!! Like Coca-Cola - even in the depths of Kenya, folk know this sign!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!
Have a wonderful week :)
I love the McDonald sign as it brings back such wonderful memories of my youth. We rarely ate fast food, but once in a while dad treated us to McDonalds. Ours was a walk up as this was in the mid 1960's.
ReplyDeleteYou picked the perfect subject for this prompt Lori.
ReplyDeleteAlways makes me think of roadtrips! We have family in Kentucky so we would pile into the Crown Victoria (I always got the way back) and we would all swear the fries were always better in the US than here. Powerful typography to be sure
ReplyDeleteisn't that the truth! those golden arches
ReplyDeleteI like the little maple leaf in the middle!
ReplyDeleteThe big M always reminds me of the yellow brick road, love the little leaf!
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic! Good job!
ReplyDeleteGreat one, Lori! You are so right - a universally recognized single letter. I have to admit we succumbed to those golden arches in Rome once - it was chilly and hot french fries were irresistible! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the Great American Icon...or should I say font?
ReplyDeleteAaaah! Great branding there!!! You're right, everyone world wide recognizes this simple symbol.
