Focus on Life Wk 24~Green

This last week has not been pretty for me...like many others, I have a bad back which causes me grief every now and again. This week, for the second time in my life, I've been hit with brutal sciatica. If you've never suffered sciatica...think of the time when you went outside in the cold to shovel snow or play, and froze your fingers or toes a bit...you know the pain that hits when you go inside and they warm up? Sciatica is like that....only 24/7, and it runs down your side from ribs to toes generally. It is impossible to describe how debilitating it is if you've never suffered.

I now have the pain somewhat under control with lots of anti-inflammatories and pain killers. Unfortunately, one of the mandates for recovery is not remaining in any one position (sitting, standing, laying down) for longer than half an hour at a time; so I set an alarm and am a slave to its ring.

It's not very conducive to getting ANYthing accomplished! But.....Sally said "We are going green for this week's photo!" and I took that as an invitation to a walk in the park a few days back, with my camera. It had rained about half an hour previous to my wander.....can you see the water cupped in those Hosta leaves?

The iris were a bit past their prime, but still beautiful!

And although I have NO idea what this is, I think it's very cool-looking!

This little fellow joined me as well

It was very serene and beautiful, and just the thing to offer me a bit of peace for a few minutes:

Thanks Sally! It was just what I needed, how did you know?

Be sure to see what the other participants have discovered in their green worlds this week as well!

  12. I am so sorry for the pain. I've had twinges before on long hikes, but I've been fortunate to not have it hang around. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy your stroll as you got some gorgeous photos.

  13. I hope you start to heal and feel better with each passing day. I am no stranger to chronic back pain so I understand completely how you feel. You did the right thing and used your creativity as a healing balm. Beautiful shots and love the little fella you captured with your camera.

  14. I hope your pain subsides and you start to feel better soon. My mother had back surgery and was never the same again. Watching her go through that pain was not something I would wish on anyone. I hope it passes. How lucky to have black squirrels.. All of ours are brown.. No fun.

  15. I sympathize with your back pain and the numbness in your leg as I have had it. You are right, you really can't describe the awfulness of it. Sometimes a distraction like your lovely walk can take the mind off. You captured some beauties - love those purple iris against green. Fast healing to you!

  16. Beautiful photos! I'm so glad you could take this walk and I hope it lifted your spirits.

My dad had bouts of sciataca where he could not even get up from the floor or bed. He finally found relief with a traction contraption that he made himself that tugged at the hips. After that he never suffered again. Of course that was years ago. He never liked to take medicine and thankfully this did the trick.

I hope you heal quickly because I know how much pain this brings.

  17. Oh my goodness from your description of sciataca (that I read with my head half hidden from the screen all scrunched up at the thought) well, I wouldn't wish that on anyone! I hope it gets good and gone soon, poor you. Great job getting pictures too, I'm not sure what that last flower is, don't think I've ever seen it before. It looks like it is trying too hard :)

  18. I hate pain... I get something similar doesn't useually last more than 48 hours though. Your blue flower is
"Centaurea Montana 'Amethyst Dream': Perennial Bachelor Buttons "

I think squirrels are so cute, we don't really have any here!
