Focus on Life~Week 3

Week 3's Focus on Life Photography Challenge is "Take Time"...and I used Sally's "permission" to do just that!

A little background....several things are at play here....

1. I love books and bookstores.....

2. I HATE to cook....when I was about 4 my mother was hospitalized for almost 10 years; it was just my Dad and I at home for the most part, and as of course he had to make a living...I was cooking for the family from the time I was about 5. And now...I'm SO done with it. Anything someone else will cook for me....ANYTHING....is super-duper great!!

So my "taking time for myself" hour or so (so, OK, I stretched that 15 minutes a little.....) became a 2-parter here:

It's OK by the way....don't worry....I went WITHOUT the credit card and spent a wonderful hour browsing...

and then, here:

That's the BEST cheeseburger soup ever (it was a cold day), the best jalapeno roll ever, and the best chocolate/pecan/caramel cookie ever that you see there....and oh! The best glass of lemonade ever!
And I didn't even have to wash the dishes *g*

Thanks, Sally, for the "permission"; I had a wonderful afternoon!

  5. I have a poster that says " Books fall open, you fall in" that I got when my children were young to instill a love of books and reading in them that i have. I am a self confessed bookaholic and one of my favorite things is now on amazon, as a prime member, it will tell me when I search out a book that I already have it in my library, telling me when I purchased it previously. Saves me buying doubles, an issue I had before :) Great post

  7. Your post is one that is right up my alley!! I could spend hours perusing the shelves of bookstores! So relaxing. And you are right I love a meal that you don't have to make your self and then someone else also does the dishes! :)

  8. Me too! I love visiting the book store and browsing. I love the smell of our Barnes and Noble and every once in a while I'll treat myself to a magazine and a brownie. Heaven!!!! And I'll take a book over an Nook or any other reader any day!

  9. LOVE spending time in the bookstore! My kids do too, usually the mere mention of going has them running for the car - refusing to be left behind! And like you, I head straight for the craft section. I usually have that section to myself, so I just sit cross-leg on the floor and flip. LOVE it!

  10. Love your post and your photos!! Never had cheeseburger soup, but it sounds kinda good!! I would love to have a huge library in my house,....or an antique library/book store right around the corner. That would be heaven!

  14. Wasn't it fun to have 'permission' to take an outing so someplace we totally love? I'm right there with you concerning reading and bookstores. I'm downright dangerous.

It looks like you had such fun! What a delightful way to spend some time.

  15. Food for soul and food for your body too: excellent choices! Lovely ways to spend your 'me' time.

This is so funny - I spent one of my lunch hours this week at Chapters-Indigo, doing the exact same thing: just browsing :) I learned looong time ago to browse the bookstore and buy nothing - then get to the library and borrow what interests me. If I tend to borrow the same book over and over - I will buy it :)

  19. Ok - Wow. I am hungry for jalapeno bread and cheeseburger soup. I have to go recipe surfing! I too love to browse the bookstore but don't get there too often to do it. It's just too easy to buy books now on the ipad - but definitely not the same as perusing the isles!

  21. Yummy! I like soup. Right now I'm hungry for potato soup. My bead book collection has grown considerably in the last year. I do ok at most book store but Half Price Books gets more than I planned on spending every time I go there.

  27. I am right there with you as far as books are concerned. In fact, I think the perfect store would be called "Books and Beads" and don't forget Books About Beading! And love the quote from Louisa May Alcott - I have that one on my instant messenger profile! Sympatico!
