A little background....several things are at play here....
1. I love books and bookstores.....
2. I HATE to cook....when I was about 4 my mother was hospitalized for almost 10 years; it was just my Dad and I at home for the most part, and as of course he had to make a living...I was cooking for the family from the time I was about 5. And now...I'm SO done with it. Anything someone else will cook for me....ANYTHING....is super-duper great!!
So my "taking time for myself" hour or so (so, OK, I stretched that 15 minutes a little.....) became a 2-parter here:
It's OK by the way....don't worry....I went WITHOUT the credit card and spent a wonderful hour browsing...
and then, here:
That's the BEST cheeseburger soup ever (it was a cold day), the best jalapeno roll ever, and the best chocolate/pecan/caramel cookie ever that you see there....and oh! The best glass of lemonade ever!
And I didn't even have to wash the dishes *g*
Thanks, Sally, for the "permission"; I had a wonderful afternoon!
It sounds like a wonderful afternoon. I love browsing in a bookstore as well. I have never heard of cheeseburger soup, but I will be checking out recipes. It sounds great.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, love your idea of an afternoon well spent. Pictures are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend your time...that soup looks amazing!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteahhh! a bookshop... there is no finer way to spend time...
ReplyDeletegreat photos and that soup and bread look scrummy :)
[no. 13 this week]
I have a poster that says " Books fall open, you fall in" that I got when my children were young to instill a love of books and reading in them that i have. I am a self confessed bookaholic and one of my favorite things is now on amazon, as a prime member, it will tell me when I search out a book that I already have it in my library, telling me when I purchased it previously. Saves me buying doubles, an issue I had before :) Great post
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful time- yay for you! I love going to bookstores - it has been ages since I have done that! That soup looks sooooo yummy!
ReplyDeleteYour post is one that is right up my alley!! I could spend hours perusing the shelves of bookstores! So relaxing. And you are right I love a meal that you don't have to make your self and then someone else also does the dishes! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I love visiting the book store and browsing. I love the smell of our Barnes and Noble and every once in a while I'll treat myself to a magazine and a brownie. Heaven!!!! And I'll take a book over an Nook or any other reader any day!
ReplyDeleteLOVE spending time in the bookstore! My kids do too, usually the mere mention of going has them running for the car - refusing to be left behind! And like you, I head straight for the craft section. I usually have that section to myself, so I just sit cross-leg on the floor and flip. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteLove your post and your photos!! Never had cheeseburger soup, but it sounds kinda good!! I would love to have a huge library in my house,....or an antique library/book store right around the corner. That would be heaven!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you spent your time - I could live in a bookstore! Your lunch looks totally yumm-o!
ReplyDeleteOh can I come with you next time pleeeeeze...? I adore bookstores and I've never heard of cheeseburger soup - it looks divine. What a great self indulgence.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful day browsing a book store and having what sounds like a delicious meal!
ReplyDeleteWasn't it fun to have 'permission' to take an outing so someplace we totally love? I'm right there with you concerning reading and bookstores. I'm downright dangerous.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had such fun! What a delightful way to spend some time.
Food for soul and food for your body too: excellent choices! Lovely ways to spend your 'me' time.
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny - I spent one of my lunch hours this week at Chapters-Indigo, doing the exact same thing: just browsing :) I learned looong time ago to browse the bookstore and buy nothing - then get to the library and borrow what interests me. If I tend to borrow the same book over and over - I will buy it :)
Sounds like fun I love the book store, and am a great fan of not washing up!
ReplyDeleteI could get lost forever in a bookstore. And cheeseburger soup is a favorite for my family. I love the way you spent time for yourself! Your photos are great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annette! Might need that recipe for cheeseburger soup....:-)
DeleteI have never had cheeseburger soup. Looks delish. What a quaint bookstore. I love the smell of old books.
ReplyDeleteOk - Wow. I am hungry for jalapeno bread and cheeseburger soup. I have to go recipe surfing! I too love to browse the bookstore but don't get there too often to do it. It's just too easy to buy books now on the ipad - but definitely not the same as perusing the isles!
ReplyDeletePerfect way to spend some time, I love browsing the book store too and lunch looks so yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteYummy! I like soup. Right now I'm hungry for potato soup. My bead book collection has grown considerably in the last year. I do ok at most book store but Half Price Books gets more than I planned on spending every time I go there.
ReplyDeleteOh yay! So glad you got to go and do something you really love to do and eat a wonderful filling meal.
ReplyDeleteTherese
Oh well done! I could just slide right into that chair and you can come get me much much later. Great sharing, and perfect time taking
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat post. We know how much you love to read and every now and then I get recommendations from you ( through Good Read) from you.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics Lori. Have another great week...RELAXING.
Bookstores are kryptonite for me....so I can completely understand your lovely hour! Looks like you really enjoyed yourself!
ReplyDeleteDelightful! I love to browse bookstores. So much to see, so little time! And your lunch looks delicious! Enjoy the day. Erin
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you as far as books are concerned. In fact, I think the perfect store would be called "Books and Beads" and don't forget Books About Beading! And love the quote from Louisa May Alcott - I have that one on my instant messenger profile! Sympatico!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving your comment in my blog - OLD COIN... I'd love to send you some coins from India. Let's do it. Take care. Dita.
