Focus on Life~Observe the Curve

I'm a little late this week, as I really took Sally's prompt to heart, and spent two hours yesterday "Observing the Curve".....

The BIG big news here all this last week (hey, we're a small town!!) has been this:

ETA: I edited the photograph, because I wan't fond of it and another poster inspired me......thanks!!

Target's incursion into Canada has been big news for several months now, but 13 of the new-to-Canada stores opened in this area in the last week. So far, just a "soft opening", ie no Grand Openings yet, but the stores doors are open and people are checking it out. So, of course, I had to do the same!

I was disappointed to find no Cherry Coke, and no Ro-tel...both of these are unavailable in Canada and I had high hopes.*sigh* No such luck. But I am keeping faith, as the stores are clearly not fully stocked yet; in fact, there are lots and lots of empty shelves at the moment.

I DID find my favourite underwear!...and, the prettiest ever set of plastic tableware for the deck, which I reluctantly left there as a) I don't need it b) I can't really afford it and c) I DO want to take that drive south in May.

Like all stores, there are great prices on some things ($7.99 for my fave shampoo, for which I usually pay $9.99!) and awful prices on others ($9.29 for the 1 kilo peanut butter...are you kidding me??), so you really have to be aware of your pricing.

But I think it will be a hit! I'll be back, and will probably check out the (much larger) store in Newmarket soon....

For now, why don't y'all check out the much-more-interesting curves of the other participants in this week's challenge HERE

  1. Hehe, I forgot about that one - we have 2 opening in the city (we had 2 Zellers before). Haven't checked any yet - but now that you've reminded me, I will.

  2. Where are YOU? Target isn't opening in the Maritimes until the fall... Not sure it will ever replace Winners/homesense though!

    1. I'm in Ontario, Lynne, in Barrie. I'm not a big Winners fan at all, as there is not enough patience in the WORLD for that, to me. Possibly the ON stores are different from yours~ours are dirty and unkempt (yuck). But the Targets are a whole different ballgame to Homesense as well.
Must chat with you about Costa Rica! We're hoping to go there in Feb 2014 as our Christmas gift to one another, as a family. Did you like it??

  6. You are so right about thr pricing at Target, at least the store by my house in Northern Virginia. Some are super low, some are super high, and I just don't get it! Happy shopping!

  7. I love Target and probably visit ours more than I should. I will have to pay more attention to pricing, though.

  9. oh boy, the American Retail invasion. It is nice to have the kind of prices you can find at a mass merch store. But it makes me sad to see them drive out the mom & pop places

  10. Lori I live in a small town also so I can relate to a Target opening. Our city fathers told Walmart no at opening here so I have to drive 35 miles to shop. At one point there was $1.00 in the price of a gallon of milk.

  13. I have a friend in Toronto who had similar type experience this week. We don't have any yet in Ottawa, but we are getting a few for sure. My hubby was interviewing for HR positions but sadly he was great but they needed one fewer (all good though he found something better). I have a local winners/Homesense two separate doors but it's really one large space, one cash and very well run. So I'm sure I will check out target when they arrive - but if they think I'm buying PB they better have another think coming, geez

  15. I shop at Target way to often! I hope they get your cherry coke and rotel soon! I use rotel regularly and would be quite upset if I couldn't find it!

  16. I was very saddened by the demise of Zellers in Canada. I haven't decided if I will be a customer at Target or not yet. I refuse to walk inside that 'other' big chain that put so many people out of business.

  17. I have not shopped at Target so can't judge them but I will say that big box stores turn me off in general. I think it is the lack of personable service. I am all for small family owned business since my husband and I both had one for years but it seems they are dying fast. A sad phenomenon!

  18. Love your shot (and Target) and you are right - have to check those prices!

  19. Yea for Tar-zhay (That is the way we say "Target" around here!)! Yes. The prices are pretty great on homewares and clothes and the like, but never on food stuffs. That is just a convenience I think. I just spent the afternoon there with my daughter and got her some new clothes to go with her developing 12 year old style that I can agree on at a price that won't break my budget. Their seasonal stuff is always the best and I just picked up a huge roaster for 1/2 off just in time for the Easter ham I have to prepare for Sunday! Thanks for sharing your curve with us! Enjoy the day. Erin
